The Herron School of Art + Design at Indiana University-Purdue University offers BFA and MFA degrees in Visual Communications Design (VCD). BFA program highlights include access to collaborative classrooms and eight VCD studios, the opportunity to enhance the degree with a Minor in Book Arts or Studio Art and Technology, and classes taught by faculty who are working professionals in the field. VCD students also have access to research and studio spaces including the Think It Make It Lab, woodshops, photo lighting studios, book arts studio, and the Herron Art Library. The school offers more than 180 degree programs across nine colleges, including the College of Liberal Arts (CoLA), which houses the Department of Art and Art History. Eighteen elective units must be from Roski School of Art and Design, and eight can be from departments and schools outside Roski. Suggested Roski electives include Design Studio Co-Lab, Design Pedagogy, Directed Research, International Design Study Tour, and Field Internship Experience. Examples of required courses for the program include Design Theory, Contemporary Issues in Design, Designers in Residence Forum, Individual Studies, and Advancement.
School of Fashion
Leading to a BFA, Graphic Design at Sacramento State consists of 121 credit hours of study (minimum), including 78 in the major. Students interested in obtaining skills in additional areas may do so though electives. The BFA in Graphic Design + Digital Media (GD+DM) at Laguna College of Art and Design (LCAD) is a multidisciplinary program that explores traditional and emerging areas such as 3D, iPad development, motion, advertising, print, packaging, action sport design, video, and web design.

Students seeking an MA in Graphic design must complete 36 units to graduate and MFA students must complete 63. Students have also received recognition in national, regional, and local competitions such as The One Show, American Advertising Federation Awards, National DSVC Student Show, Creative Summit, Art Director's Club of Houston, Austin Addy Awards, and San Antonio Addy Awards.
